Description
Summary:The dramatic increase in the capacity of the Internet core, and the development of powerful compression techniques, have allowed the deployment of new applications such as Internet telephony, video-conferencing, streaming audio/video, etc. These real-time applications require periodic and timely delivery of the content from the source to the destination. Traditional best-effort service provided by the current internet cannot offer an acceptable level of service quality to this type of applications. Active networks break this tradition by letting the network perform customized computation on entire packets including their payloads. The main aim of active networks is to advanced networking services and to increase the flexibility and customizability of the network.
