Summary: | Singapore is generally a flat and lowlying island. As such it is very prone to flooding, particularly when heavy rain coincides with high tide. The flood situation is aggravated through the rapid development of the country. Hence, the planning, design and construction of proper drainage infrastructures have become one of the major civil engineering works in Singapore. In a small and densely-built country like Singapore, very often many of the drainage projects are constructed very close to residential buildings and other private properties. Project Managers for these projects therefore often have a very daunting task to ensure that the drainage works do not damage the properties while ensuring the smooth progress and timely completion of the projects. The choice of a good and practical soil stabilisation method to protect the drainage works is therefore very important to ensure that ground settlement, that will eventually lead to damage to adjacent properties, are kept to a minimum. At the same time, good project
management is also important to ensure that the drainage construction projects are
completed on time, within budget and in compliance with all the contracts
specifications. |
