Summary:Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a relatively new paradigm that companies are increasingly embracing, especially for businesses in Asia. With heightened global emphasis on sustainable tourism, owners, developers and especially operators in the hospitality industry are also making CSR a key driver of business growth. Policies and projects are being actively developed and implemented to help businesses improve not just their traditional bottom line; profit, but also the two other bottom lines, planet and profit; that can influence the overall sustainability of their businesses. Three hospitality organisations, namely InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG), Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts (BTHR) and The Ascott Limited (TAL) are studied. The Triple Bottom Line (TBL) model is used as a framework to understand the nature of companies‟ CSR policies and initiatives. CSR policies and initiatives of the three organisations are identified and categorised into the three domains of TBL – People, Planet and Profit. These policies and initiatives are then compared across the three organisations. In the second part of our findings, the issues and challenges of CSR planning, implementation and reporting of the three organisations are identified and discussed, with an aim to achieve a better understanding of challenges faced by the hospitality industry in the whole CSR process.
