Social predictors of psychological capital in Singapore.

Although psychological capital is an emerging talent management construct that has been linked to many positive organizational outcomes, there is a need for better understanding of its relationship with social constructs. This study mainly investigates two social constructs- social skills and positive relations with others and their relationship with psychological capital. Both social skills and positive relations with others were found to significantly predict psychological capital as well as its components- hope, resilience, self-efficacy and optimism. However, contrary to expectations, the mediating role of positive relations with others on social skills and psychological capital was not supported. Consistent with previous research, psychological capital was found to predict job satisfaction. Implications on future research directions as well as training practices were discussed.
