Summary: | There is often more than what meets the eye in any 3D model than just the geometry. This information plays a great role in describing the model itself. Information such as texture, scale, types of material, or even just a simple description or a picture showing what it looks like in real life.
The challenge of any 3D model viewer or creation software is to show this information in a non intrusive way, and also to avoid information overload for the user. Pop ups are generally the way to show such transient information. However painting off screen and creating floating windows is expensive and hampers the responsiveness of the viewer, which is one of the core competencies of any good viewer. |
