When the player starts playing a new game, s/he recognizes the existence of the game controller while trying to learn the controls so as to play the game. As the player grows more proficient in playing the game, her/his recognition of the game controller slowly fades till the day s/he becomes an expert in the game and finally s/he forgets the existence of the game controller.
