Description
Summary:With global trading business being containerized, Singapore will continue to experience a significant increase of workload in the years to come. Without fully utilizing the resources in the container terminal, Singapore will not be as competitive and will not be able to handle the workload in the near future. In order to prevent these from happening, container terminals are required to utilize their resources efficiently especially by improving the truckers’ job waiting time. This project aims to help container terminals reduce the waiting time of jobs by implementing the Hierarchical Yard Crane Operation Management Scheme and obtaining results through the simulation approach. The focus of this project is the level 1 of the hierarchical scheme which is the dispatching of yard cranes to rows. This report will discuss the design and the results of the experiments conducted on the level 1 hierarchical scheme and improvements made.
