Description
Summary:The persistent proportion of low wage workers in Singapore motivates us to find the reasons that contribute to low wage in the country and work towards helping the low wage workers. The Workfare scheme has been examined through a survey and regression analysis. The survey found that many low wage workers are unaware of Workfare or do not feel that it is beneficial. The regression has found that mainly higher education have an opposite relation with the number of years in Workfare. While Workfare has the potential to compensate for the lack of education, the current scheme can be further improved through increased awareness and increased participation rates to obtain a better outcome. We conclude that the best way to help them is through training, which would allow the low wage workers to help themselves in qualifying for better paying jobs.
