Summary: | With more services being dispensed by interactive machines, human-to-human (H2H) communication theories are needed to improve human-to-machine (H2M) interaction because most of the interaction aspects of these artificial systems are designed by experts who are more experienced in system programming than in human cognitive psychology. Thus, the user needs to adapt to these machines, often resulting in miscommunication and undue anxiety.
This project seeks to establish a balanced interaction environment between humans and machines by investigating into the theory of H2H communication to H2M interaction. Based on the two most influential H2H communication theories – Speech Act Theory and the Theory of Communicative Action, a systematic theoretical framework for the design of interactive machine systems will be formalized by integrating the best features of both theories. |
