Summary: | Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is widely used in the industrial field especially in aerospace industries where the integrity of the components is ensured to be free of defects. Defects can be formed from a lot factors. Stress is one of the factors.
In this project, a combination of longitudinal and shear waves produced by the NDT equipments are used instead of using its individual waves. This combination of waves is also known as Rayleigh waves. Therefore stress analysis using NDT techniques that produce Rayleigh waves are performed: V(z) technique that is available in Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM) machine; Conventional ultrasonic probe testing. In order to create the presence of stress, stretching mechanisms such as the conventional tensile machine – INSTRON and a custom made portable hand screw is used to induce the stress. |
