Effects of morphology on the synthesised graphene-manganese dioxide compounds.

Manganese dioxide compounds of different morphologies were produced under different physical properties and reaction mediums. The compounds were all found to be alpha – manganese dioxide through Raman spectroscopy. The organic property of alcohol allowed the production of some morphology which was u...

The compounds were all found to be alpha – manganese dioxide through Raman spectroscopy. The organic property of alcohol allowed the production of some morphology which was unattainable in a purely deionized water medium. The shape and size of the produced manganese dioxide particles have a direct relationship to the solvents. The cyclic voltammogram showed that some alcohol assisted mediums produced manganese compounds with larger capacitance than that from purely water medium. The addition of graphene to form a compound with manganese dioxide did not enhance the resultant compounds’ electronic properties. The Raman spectroscopy proved that there is evidence that the carbon compounds may be oxidized to graphene oxide instead of graphene. The graphene oxide may actually lower the conductivity and capacitance of the compounds. This was very much evident when different loading of graphene were used.
