Description
Summary:A ring tone is an audio alert made by mobile phone to notify an event such as an incoming call, SMS or MMS. Missing a phone call may be common but have you ever wondered why it always happens to you. You may console yourself that you are always too busy to notice your phone is ringing. This may be true to some extent but is that all that simple to a missed call? No, if you understood the hearing of general human being, the characteristics & behaviours of the ring tone that you are using, and the environments that you are in when your phone is ringing. This research report provides a brief understanding of general human hearing and the study to the effect of ring tone loudness masking in typical noisy environments. By analyzing the frequency and sound pressure level of the ring tones and the noisy environments, it will help us understand audio masking behaviour better, and by exploring alternative adjustments besides loudness manipulation in such environments, it will further minimize the chances of missing calls.
