Foo Say Wei School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Electronic systems::Signal processing 72 p. The fundamental area in this project is Automatic Recognition of Musical Instruments. The idea is to analyze the musical instrument and recognize which instrument is playing. According to musical practice, this requires extraction of notes, their pitch and timings. The literature review part of this project introduces the studies on the sound of musical instruments, as well as related knowledge on instrument acoustics. The foundation for the important part of this project is the extraction of perceptually relevant features from acoustic musical signals. The most important part of this project concerns the development of algorithms that can be used to detect the fundamental frequencies of each note in the sound and measures the duration and loudness of each note in the sound.
