In this dissertation, techniques from social network analysis were used to analyse the characteristics of networks of dentists. The data was based on research publication papers written by the dentists at the Faculties of Dentistry of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Sydney (UOS) for the period from 1991 to 2004. Patterns of networks of collaboration between the dentists were constructed using two software programmes, namely UCINET (Version 6.82) and Pajek (Version 1.00). In these networks, two dentists were considered connected if they have co-authored one or more papers together.
