This dissertation attempts to analyse the manifestation of gender differences in crisis communication. It takes a cue from the discussion of gender in Contingency theory of conflict management, which suggests that there can be no fixed and ideal stance for an organisation in crisis situation, and the stance depends on a number of contingent factors. Gender has been suggested as one of the variables in Contingency theory. Researchers have attempted to hint an association between traditional feminine behavioural characteristics and an accommodative strategy. This thesis attempts to probe deep into this variable. It critiques and seeks to reconceptualise the discussion of gender in Contingency theory from a feminist perspective. It tries to explore how the gender of women public relations practitioners influence organisational crisis management and whether there can be a connection between so-called feminine behavioural pattern and accommodative strategy in crisis management. Master of Mass Communication 2011-12-27T08:39:09Z 2011-12-27T08:39:09Z 2010 2010 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10356/47550 Nanyang Technological University application/pdf
