谢裕民是当代新加坡华文文学的重要作家之一，其作品从上世纪80年代迄今，其间见证新加坡从独立建国、政策与制度的建立到社会、文化与国民性格的建构和重构，谢裕民的作品可谓跟国家与社会同步发展。本文考察了谢裕民作品所再现的主题关怀以及新加坡的历史文化语境之间的脉络关系，并通过文本细读的方式发现谢裕民的写作跟他对社会的反思和批判意识的关系密切，使他超越了新华文学书写里对于民族文化的相对保守的关注，而着眼于更广大的文化现象和历史反思和重构上。Chia Joo Ming is one of the most important writers in Singapore’s contemporary Chinese literary scene. It can be said that his works, spanning from 1980s till today, developed in tandem with Singapore and the society, in the process witnessing the construction of a nation in post-independence era, the formulation of policies and systems and the construction and re-construction of culture and character of her citizens. This thesis attempts to investigate the underlying trends and relations between the main themes explored in Chia's works and Singapore's historical and cultural context. A close reading of Chia’s works brings insight into the complex relation between his writing and critical consciousness of society, of which his reflections on institution and history per se form a predominant aspect in his writings, surpassing the conventional preoccupation of ethnic identity found in Singapore Chinese literature.
