A survey was administered over an online survey portal. 271 valid responses, made up of 57.9% female and 42.1% male respondents, were received. A 16-factor Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI-16) was used to measure the levels of narcissism within individuals in our survey. Respondents were asked to rank job preferences from 1 to 10, with 1 being the most important, and 10 being the least important. Correlations were then examined between the two subjects of interest. Among the 10 job preferences, Advancement is found to have the strongest correlation with NPI. Respondents have also ranked Interest, Work-Life Balance and Advancement as the top 3 most important job preferences. The mean NPI of all respondents was found to be 4.53 out of 16. Further analyses were made by dividing respondents into various sub-groups, such as highly narcissistic responses, gender, faculty and time spent on social media. In light of the correlations found, several recommendations in the form of compensations, structuring of jobs and hiring processes were made to help employers create a better-suited work environment for the Gen Y employees.
