Summary: | In this project, a firmware was implemented for real time locating system (RTLS) using active RFID. The focus of this project was to improve on the firmware of the RTLS system. Both the positioning algorithms and RTLS application were not within the focus of this project.
The firmware was implemented on Texas Instrument CC2530 system-on chip using ZigBee protocol stack. The new firmware demonstrates a flexible, controllable and run-time modifiable system with improved efficiency and reliability in both radio and serial communication compare to previous firmware. The new firmware has the flexibility to adapt and apply on different application scenarios, controllable using the PC instead of just reporting data and modifiable during run-time to change its roles and/or settings such as beep interval. However, there are also some limitations faced, such as limit in the rate of beep interval and limit in power saving feature for certain device type, which will be discuss and analyse in detail in the report.
Lastly, a demo software was created and integrated with other project to demonstrate the capability of the firmware developed in this project. |
