Summary: | Recently, since smartphone and tablet have the fastest growth in the technology industry, there is a great revolution in the mobile game. However, the majority of mobile games are based on the current on-device input interfaces that smartphone and tablet have like the touch screen, the accelerometer, etc. Compared to the interface for computer games or console games, it seems that input interfaces of mobile games do not satisfy the requirements of the gamers.
This research aims to build a new game controller that fills in this gap for mobile games. It must also be portable and power efficient. The core of this device is a piezoelectricity. Based on the unique characteristic of this material, this new controller can detect the strength of input force and try to remove the “release” state that has in many other game controllers.
The author implements a self-developed game to demonstrate the advantages of this new game controller over other on-device input interfaces found on current smartphones. The research also points out strengths and weaknesses of this device against existing input interfaces that majority of mobile games currently use and controller of the computer game or game console like the joystick, button and kinect. |
