The predominant race in both Singapore and China is Chinese, allowing both countries to be similar in many ways especially in the cultural aspect. Nevertheless, it is these similarities which are the cause of restrictions in their interactions. The Cold War brought upon tense atmosphere which forced many South-east Asian nations to be on their guard against communism. Being a predominantly Chinese immigrant society, Singapore has always met with difficulties integrating into the region, and with the spread of communism through Asia by communist China, it has added on to Singapore’s troubles. With this, the immediate consideration for national survival is to draw a clear boundary from China and stand as a united front with the South-east Asian nations. |
