新加坡和中国都是以华族为主的国家，两国在很多方面尤其是文化上都拥有很多的共同点。尽管如此，两国在很长的时间里却是被这些共同点给约束它们的互动。冷战带来的紧张气氛，不得让东南亚各国对共产主义起戒备之心。新加坡身为一个华人居多的移民社会，在融入区域时就已经遇见了重重困难，此时加上共产中国不断散播共产主义，更加据这份艰难的工作。在这样的背景下，为国家生存的当即考量就是与中国划清界线，跟东南亚各国站在同一战线。 The predominant race in both Singapore and China is Chinese, allowing both countries to be similar in many ways especially in the cultural aspect. Nevertheless, it is these similarities which are the cause of restrictions in their interactions. The Cold War brought upon tense atmosphere which forced many South-east Asian nations to be on their guard against communism. Being a predominantly Chinese immigrant society, Singapore has always met with difficulties integrating into the region, and with the spread of communism through Asia by communist China, it has added on to Singapore’s troubles. With this, the immediate consideration for national survival is to draw a clear boundary from China and stand as a united front with the South-east Asian nations.
