Summary: | The Port of Singapore is considered as one of the world busiest port. It tranships a fifth of the world’s shipping containers, half the world’s annual supply of crude oil and is the world’s busiest transhipment port.
With the increasing throughput seen every year as reported by Maritime and Port of Authority of Singapore, it is important to shorten the vessel turnaround time. In this project, a framework for real time operational control of a container terminal will be implemented and studied in detail.
This proposed framework will consider the real-time terminal status in the operational control of the container terminal including the quay cranes, vehicles and yard cranes. The goal is to shorten vessel turnaround time, increase container terminal productivity and reduce operation costs.
In order to find out if the real-time terminal status update will be beneficial, the implemented operational control system will run on a simulated terminal program and evaluation will be performed on the gathered performance measures.
The operational control system will run on three approaches. The first approach closely resembles the conventional terminal operation control system, and the other two approaches are implemented based on the proposed real-time system update operational control system.
Evaluation of the performance measure shows that there is an improvement when there is real-time system status update incorporated into the proposed operational control system as compared to the conventional operation control system.
At the end of the report, some future work will be looked at in order to extend research that has been made. |
