Due to the difference in the nature of these two words, they construct two different relationships in “Jade Guanyin”, giving it two different levels of definition. While on a more precise level, “Jade Guanyin” simply stands for “Guanyin made of a certain material named jade”, the other level describes the attributes and image of “Jade Guanyin” in a more elaborative manner. The homophonic phenomenon is also applied in the definition of “Jade Guanyin”, where “Yu” (玉) is substituted by “Yu” (欲) for its meaning and image, leading to “Jade Guanyin” having a more thorough and contradictory significance.
