Description
Summary:In the recent years, combating decline in fertility has increasingly become one of Singapore's most important national agenda. Despite government's call to increase birth rate, with policies and incentives initiated, its citizens are still having second thoughts to having babies. This became a great concern for the government because perpetual decline in birth rate present a hurdle to its aim of achieving a sustainable, vibrant and cohesive society. The objective of this paper is then through a micrological approach, study why fertility rate is in perpetual decline despite various policies and incentives initiated by the government. It strives to examine individuals' fertility decision making process and contend that state ideologies have a vital role to play. It then serves to bring awareness and help policy makers make better policies for pronatalist coverage and stem perpetual fertility decline.
