新加坡潮州社群對華語常用近義詞的使用与辨析 = Chinese and Teochew speakers' usage and discrimination of the commonly used Chinese synonyms in Singapore

建国以来，新加坡的多元文化、多元种族和多语的社会性质，导致不同种族的人民在语言上有了长期的接触以致相互产生影响。这影响了新加坡各个种族和各种族内的不同方言群体的用语习惯，而这包括华语在内。另一方面在近年来，由于新加坡的官方语言并未纳入汉语方言，同时较正式的场合和媒体也因新加坡政府在早些年对方言的禁止而减少使用方言，以致新加坡华族对于自己的方言产生了一种陌生感，而这也是新加坡现今社会关注的课题之一。因此，本文通过对53位潮州人士的访问，主要研究新加坡潮州方言群体如何以潮州方言使用华语近义词的状况。研究的重点放在他们如何以潮州方言表达各别华语近义词的概念及其使用频率，以致能了解这些潮州人士如何运用其方言的知识来进一步的理解各别华语的近义词，同时研究新加坡多语的语言环境是否导致这些潮州人士在使用华语近义词时有了其他语言或方言的借用现象。另外，笔者采用问卷法设计了一套问卷供被访者作答，以致能分析被访者对于方言、华语和英语的语言态度及被访者的社会背景如年龄、教育程度、职业等等，以便能进一步地了解导致被访者的潮州方言能力和使用状况的社会因素。Since its independence, Singapore’s multi-racial and multi-cultural society has allowed its people to interact with the different racial groups in a long run, leading to a possibility that this may cause effects on their language usage, which includes the Chinese Language. On the other hand, due to the fact that dialects are not included in Singapore’s official languages, together with the ban, in the past, of using dialects in formal occasions, events and the media, many Singaporean Chinese lacked an understanding of their own dialects, and this has been a concerning issue in recent years. Therefore, through interviews, this research seeks to find out how the Teochew speakers use and discriminate the commonly used Chinese synonyms in Singapore, so as to understand how the speakers have applied their dialect knowledge to their understanding of the commonly used Chinese words that have similar meanings and what words are borrowed from Teochew or even other dialects that the speakers may not be aware of due to the influence of the language environment in Singapore. Besides conducting interviews, a questionnaire was also designed for the Teochew speakers to garner their perceptions and views on their attitude towards the English language, Chinese language and dialects, and also to gather their social background information in order to find out the social factors leading to their usage of the Chinese synonyms.
