Summary:The study arose out of a perceived need for laymen (to the law) to better understand the mechanism of fee setting process used by lawyers in charging their clients. This encompassed the duties of a lawyer, the background of the methods used and the important factors that are considered in cost determination. The scope of the study is limited to the Singapore context. In carrying out the study, existing law literature on the subject was consulted to provide an understanding o the subject, as were relevant statutes like the Rules of the Supreme and Subordinate Courts of the Republic of Singapore and the Legal Profession (Solicitors' Remuneration) Order.
