Description
Summary:This paper introduces and debates the various terminologies such as obsessive compulsive disorders, impulse control disorders, hypersexuality and sex addiction which are currently used to describe excessive problematic sexual behaviours. Sex addiction is argued to be the most suitable label for this disorder as it best encompasses all aspects of the disorder, and various perspectives (cognitive-behavioural, psycho-biological, psychosocial and developmental) are introduced to better understand the possible causes of sex addiction. Lastly, the Integrated Theory of Sexual Offending (ITSO) is discussed to highlight limitations of current singular-perspective studies, as well as its implication on the development of treatment for sexual addiction.
