Summary: | The topic of this study comes at a time when underground developments are gaining relevance and necessity as land space continues to decline with increasing population growth, and the concept of building aboveground is becoming less sustainable. This paper provides an in-depth discussion on the feasibility of building a proposed underground science city in Singapore, as well as the possible impacts such a development may bring about on its users. The results are based on a quantitative online survey and specifically-constructed qualitative interviews conducted face-to-face by the writer, with experienced individuals from a range of existing underground facilities. A desirable outcome of this study would be more practical and user-friendly features being added into the proposed underground science city, catering to users from different types of professions who would eventually be working there. |
