description |
Nowadays, the modern society is confronted with increasingly serious
environmental and social problems caused by human excessive reliability on fossil
fuels. These critical problems might be released with the help of biomass, which has
the potential function to play as a renewable energy due to its abundant and cheap
resources. The transformation of biomass into high value chemicals through some
chemical, physical as well as biological methods, is prerequisite and indispensable for
the realization of this potential. The emphasis of this thesis is focused on the chemical
transformations of biomass into high value chemicals.
In the first chapter, the composition, classification, resource and importance of
biomass will be illustrated respectively. In the first part of chapter 1, a novel
methodology of converting glucose from biomass into hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF),
which is an important platform compound for numerous organic synthetic strategies,
would be illustrated in detail as shown in the following scheme. In addition, the proposed mechanism for this chemical conversion would also be
discussed in chapter 1.
In the second chapter, a practicable approach will be elaborated in detail, which
is focused on the chemical transformation of biomass into the natural product named
aspergillide A, which features an unique molecular architecture and pharmaceutical
activity. |
