Summary: | Thermo-catalytic decomposition (TCD) of methane is a favourable process that
produces COx-free hydrogen and carbon nano-materials. Experiments were
conducted to investigate the production of hydrogen using varying ratios of nickelmolybdenum
catalyst. These catalysts were synthesised by the precipitation method.
The performance of the catalysts was studied. The morphology and structures of the
catalysts and carbon nano-materials that were produced during the methane
decomposition reaction were analysed and characterised by transmission electron
microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.
It was found that the presence of molybdenum increased the stability of the methane
conversion reaction after 600C and enhanced the growth of multi-walled carbon
nanotubes. |
