Chen Tupei School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering This project touches on the design and simulation of electrical characteristics of capacitive sensors used in the current touch screen technology, especially on the capacitive touch screen technology. Design on capacitive touch screen sensors is conducted in this project. The design also touches on the dimensions which includes the work on the cell size, conducting materials and also substrate materials used for the electrodes. The factors affecting the optical and electrical characteristics of the electrodes will be discussed in the later chapters. In addition, this project also touches on some basic knowledge on the cover lens of the touch devices. Simulations on the self-capacitance for single plate and mutual capacitance for parallel are carried out and results have shown that the code implemented is feasible even for small-scale and close proximity cases which are the basic requirement for the simulation on touch screen sensors. Next, the simulation on designed capacitive sensor electrodes is carried out. The threshold of capacitance variation can be set, and the detection of touch point can finally be determined.
