Due to a lack of economic activities after Singapore's independence in the 60s, the local television, radio and theatre scenes were formed as the cultural industry was flourishing. The industralization of the Singapore Broadcasting Television and theatres led the industry to a rapid and pluralistic development. From 1965 to mid 70s, the theatre industry became very popular in society and this influenced the Singapore Broadcasting Television’s direction of development. Therefore, a transmedia communication phenomenon was created between the Broadcasting television and theatre industry. At the same time, the development roadmap of Singapore, technology advancement and social education development provided a suitable environment and opportunity for the transmedia communication. The efforts of the theatre and media practitioners also contributed to the success of the communication. The transmedia communication not only brought along positive growth and mutual benefits to both industries, it also opened up a whole new level of cultural consumption patterns to the society. Moreover, social and economic growth were also enhanced in the process. However, the transmedia communication phenomenon was faced with different challenges and difficulties at times. This thesis sets the boundary of discourse between the 60s and 70s. It aims to examine how the transmedia communication phenomenon was developed between the Singapore Broadcasting Television and the Theatre and the factors which propelled the growth of the transmedia communication. It also explores the challenges and difficulties which were faced by the two industries. Children’s drama club, Rediffusion Singapore and Radio Television Singapore are the main examples in the discussion
