Summary: | The problem with having only the 3D mesh is that it does not contain any information on what is in the model. It will be extremely useful if a program is able to have the ability to identify and differentiate between the surface of a table and an object lying on it.
This report will talk about how Kinect, which is becoming a popular device for 3D acquisition due to its low cost, can be used to capture and export a scene, and then create a program to detect flat surfaces from its output. It will cover the design of the data structure used to store the information from the object file, as well as the methods used for detecting the flat surfaces. The results will also be discussed, followed by an analysis of the results. |
