量词是现代汉语的重要特点之一。量词的使用反映说话者观察事物的角度和方式。同样的事物，在不同人的眼里可使用不同的量词来表达。 中国普通话和新加坡华语属于两种汉语变体。虽然新加坡华语采用了中国普通话的规范，但是由于与中国不同的历史背景、生活环境和语言环境，新加坡华语在量词的使用方面与普通话也存在差异。 汉语中能够称量动物的量词并不多，但在选择量词时，说话者会将动物的体型大小、外在形状、动作的敏捷等考虑在内。因此，一种动物可以被多个量词称量。 本文通过从语料库搜集统计动物量词的语料,从而对比中国普通话和新加坡华语修饰动物所用的量词，从而探讨这两种不同汉语变体在该类量词上的同与异。 Classifier is one of the special characteristics in Mainland Mandarin Chinese (MMC). Classifier usage is in accordance to the way how people perceive things. People can use different classifiers to express the same object. Mainland Mandarin Chinese (pu tong hua) and Singapore Mandarin Chinese (SMC) are two varieties of the Chinese language. Although SMC adopted the MMC’s standard, there are still differences when it comes to choosing which classifier to use. Under different environment and history background, when it comes to the usage of classifier, it will not be the same for MMC and SMC. There are not much classifiers that are used to quantify animals. People will consider the animal’s size, shape and agility before choosing which classifier to use to quantify the animal. Therefore, one animal can have many other classifiers that are used to quantify it. This paper will compare MMC and SMC on the usage of classifiers to quantify the animals. Through collecting data from the corpus, the similarities and differences on the usage of classifiers on animals of the two varieties of Chinese will be investigated.
