In this paper, the HR managers' views on implementation of Strategic Human Resource Management in hotels are explored. Using qualitative methodology, it examines the status of the HR department in the organisations in terms of the HR-Organisational Strategy linkage, unearths any good HR practices, and explores the strategic human resource issues and challenges faced by HR managers using qualitative methodology. The results show that the role of HR Department is evolving from operational to strategic. They also reveal that majority of the hotels have some degree of integration between their HR function and organisational strategy. Every hotel in the study has some good HR practices that aids the effective management of people. The common strategic HR issues and challenges mentioned are recruitment and retention of staff in a tight labour market as well as training and development. It is recommended that HR Department adopt some of measures like investment in IT and employee involvement programmes in order to change its role from operational to strategic.
