Ferroelectric thin films are highly demanded in various applications such as sensors, actuators, transducers, and many other microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) due to their unique ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. Perovskite-based ferroelectric materials with complex oxide composition are able to offer the flexibility in tailoring the material properties through adjusting the mole ratio of each component and even obtaining outstanding performance at composition controlled morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). However, maintaining stoichiometric composition in oxide thin films is one of the critical challenges in preparing ferroelectric thin films with complex composition due to volatility of metal oxide, formation of secondary phase, and interdiffusion issues. Many approaches have been reported to solve these problems, while chemical solution deposition method has great advantages over other deposition methods in addressing the issue of complex compositions.
