With increase in awareness and consciousness of the human health and environment, the biosensor technology has gained increasing research and development attention over the recent decades. There were mainly two streams of research: one was to develop sophisticated and sensitive assays, normally used in centralized laboratories. These system must be very accurate and able to handle large quantity of samples and / or capable of multiple analyte analysis. The other stream was to develop fast, simple and inexpensive point-of-care (POC) system that are mainly used at bed side, medical emergency sites, for home based medical care, and also in medical labs for front line screening. Such POC system must be simple, user friendly and capable of handling whole blood sample directly. In this thesis, label-free immune-type electrical biosensor platforms based on sol-gel derived amorphous barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films have been successfully designed, fabricated and characterized.
