Description
Summary:Over the past 7 years the Android system and its applications had been through a long revolution with tremendous improvements on both UIs and utilization. Nowadays Android is highly stable and millions of applications on google play are available for downloading and usage. These applications cover a lot of areas such as personalization, entertainment, lifestyle, education, etc. Some of the concepts like video streaming, peer to peer chat are with mature technology and implementation, while others like crowd sourcing, intelligent transportation still lack innovation on their applications. This report describes the development of an android application for trip planning. It allows users to create and manage their trip in the form of timeline, the application also provides online / offline map navigation, information sharing through social media, and weather report from both official and crowd source. The whole project took 7 months, and the important technology and concepts used in this project include: Android activity lifecycle, list view and expandable list view, Android and server data exchange, Facebook and Twitter API for android, Open Street Map rendering, Android multi-threading. The project was finished in April 2014, with an application containing all described features. This project is jointly with Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR.
