The Double Happiness motif often appears on items associated with weddings. These motifs are produced on paper cuts and as calligraphy then used as decorations. This practice can be traced back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279AD) and was associated with a gifted scholar by the name of Wang An Shi. (Refer to Appendix A for the Legend of Wang Shi An)
