Description
Summary:In recent years, more people are motivated to conduct home improvements themselves either for economic reason or the need for customization. Fixing wall mounts like paintings, photos or even TV are noted to be one of the most common home improvements done by individuals. An inevitable process needed when fixing wall mount is the taking of measurements to ensure holes are accurately located for drilling. Drilling is necessary when a large or heavy object needs to be mounted or attached to the wall. Therefore, this project aims to design and develop tools for transferring and drilling perpendicular pattern holes for individuals who are conducting their own home improvements. The report will first review and analyze existing measuring and drilling process for home improvements. It will then focus on the thought process during designing and developing of the tools. Morphological charts are generated to isolate and develop solutions analytically and systematically. After generating the morphological charts, detailed design of each components were then developed. Three drilling experiments, one measurement experiment and one modification experiment were designed and conducted to determine if the prototypes generated has met their objectives. Experiments were also designed to compare existing methods to the prototypes generated. Results from the experiments were analyzed and proven to meet the objectives. In addition, the results obtained also shows that the prototype generated were better alternative compared to existing methods.
