Manufacturing systems analysis of assembly manufacturing to improve performance

Variability is the greatest enemy of a manufacturing system; it causes unstable performances and varies the productivity of the manufacturing system. This report introduces to the reader about reducing variability to improve the performance of a manufacturing assembly cell. Other methods to improve...

This report introduces to the reader about reducing variability to improve the performance of a manufacturing assembly cell. Other methods to improve performance of a manufacturing cell includes improving machine’s process time, improving standard work of operators and other ergonomics factors will be included in the project. The simulation model of the manufacturing assembly cell was draft out using the software: FlexSim. It was based on actual production cell data from the student’s industrial attachment company Delphi Automotive. Many different scenarios of variations (DOE) had been applied on the simulation model to get the different performances of the manufacturing system. The results were used in further analysis and discussion to find out the factors that cause the best improvement or cause the worst productivity to the manufacturing system. The author would propose a set of solutions to improve the performance of the assembly manufacturing system.
