description |
With the increase of electronic gadgets each may hold globally and the increase in usages, charging of the lithium ion batteries is increasing in demand as well. With the introduction of external battery power banks, more electricity is used as they require AC power source to charge.
This trend of using high capacity battery banks made the demand of electricity higher as it
continues. With the global oil reserve slowly depletes and burning of oil being the primary
energy source used for electricity generation, alternative source of energy have been explored
such as solar, wind, tidal and nuclear to produce electricity. On top of that, the combustion of
fossil fuel causes pollution and will continue to worsen global warming.
For situations where AC power is not readily available and for electricity cost saving purpose, it
is useful to devise a solar based battery charger. Out in the market there are already solar
chargers, but this design will be based on a concentrated solar photovoltaic device with an
optical concentrator to charge the battery. |
