Summary:Speech degradation due to corruption by background noise is one of the most signifi-cant challenges faced in audio signal processing. Most speech enhancement algorithms use multiple sensors for noise reduction. However, this arrangement is often bulky and computationally intensive, and their use may not be possible in several applications where space is a major constraint. The use of compact acoustic vector sensors presents an elegant solution to this problem. This dissertation looks at noise reduction algorithms for a single AVS using quaternions to represent the four-channel AVS output as a single vector. The frequency domain Wiener filter is discussed and is extended for use in AVS. The perfor-mance of the algorithms are discussed and analysed using various quantifying parameters. All simulations have been done using MATLAB.
