sg-ntu-dr.10356-625812020-09-27T20:19:40Z Reviving Singapore football in a bid to make Kallang and the Lions roar again Lim, Aaron Yong Dr. Nick Aplin DRNTU::Science::General::Careers and profession 58 p. Singapore football is at an all-time low. This paper looked at some of the significant events that shaped Singapore into a football crazy nation. As such, by reminiscing on the precious memories, it would hopefully put everyone, the young and old, on the same page. A sense of identity and belonging is vital to inspire future generations to support the national team, in a bid to back the Kallang Roar. However, the main focus of the paper was on the social phenomena surrounding the game and the problems plaguing the national sport. With the government’s shift in priorities and a flat-lining sport culture, coupled with an ailing domestic league and an ineffective youth development system, the paper aimed to address the problems systematically. It would hopefully serve as a catalyst for the public, government and the Football Association of Singapore to change their mindset and strategic plans, as the Lions press on to become a strong footballing team, roaring on the international stage again. Undoubtedly, it is clear that the suggested measures will not provide an immediate guarantee of success. However, with a conceptual framework in place, it would set a stage for future investigations into Singapore football from a sport sociological viewpoint.
