Summary: | This project explores new alternatives and methods of human interaction with computers brought about by the advent of 3D depth and motion sensing technologies. Coupled with projection technologies, new prototypical applications of human interaction can be developed as a proof-of-concept to envision a future where such technologies can converge into a singular medium, such as a phone or laptop. With the initial plan of the project being a continuation of a previous student’s work, it has since then taken a new direction and emphasis. By introducing a handheld projection screen, new possiblities of interaction have open up and the project seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of these interactions. This will be demonstrated in 2 prototypes developed by the student. The first prototype is an application that allows the user to virtually draw in a 3D space generated by the computer, aided by the handheld screen and a laser pointer. While the second is a space simulator whereby the user can control a spaceship using the screen to explore a space environment. This report details the process of development of these applications and the methods employed. |
