Summary: | This report is to describe the process that the author has gone through during his design and completion of the Final Year Project (FYP). Oculus Rift DK2 is the latest product of a virtual reality company called Oculus VR. It is a head mounted display that can give the user the feeling that he is in a real world by wearing it. It is mainly designed for three-dimensional games. The DK2 was released in July 2014 to provide game developers an opportunity to develop contents in time for the release of the new Oculus Rift. Therefore, by the time the author received the DK2, it was a completely new device that a few people has tried it. The author has to start from scratch to explore it and find out how to use it. Besides the Oculus Rift DK2, the author was also given some Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors to connect them to the Oculus Rift DK2. The Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor was tied to the arm of a person to capture the Measurement of the arm. The author was required to create an interface of the Oculus Rift DK2 and the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors to capture three-dimensional data. That is to say, by connecting the Inertial Measurement Unit sensors and the Oculus Rift DK2, the user will be able to see the movement of the arm in a virtual world by putting on the Oculus Rift DK2. This project has great applications in many fields such as Military, Education, Healthcare and Entertainment. |
