Description
Summary:While the gothic is a recognizable and highly conventional literary mode identified with tropes such as decrepit architecture, supernatural occurrences, and a claustrophobic atmosphere, these are merely superficial markers, with the deeper concern being cultural anxiety about the infiltration of the “other”. This paper will look at this particular anxiety in the Castle of Otranto and Atonement before examining how this anxiety is expressed in the multimedia texts Bad ∞ End ∞ Night series and Ingress.
