Singapore being the first world country is well-known for Knowledge-Based Economy. New attraction areas, schools and hospitals are being catered to the needs of Singaporeans and the development of Singapore. However, Singapore’s Electricity consumption has also increased rapidly over the years from 8.4 billion KWh per capita of the year 2007 to approximately 8.7 billion kWh per capita of the year 2012. Research have shown possibilities of getting normal citizen to participate in conserving energy through the awareness of Smart Home Management. Smart Home is where home users can configure, monitor and maintain electronic appliances in a remote building anytime, anywhere. The objective of this project is to design a Smart Home Management System which would allow users to configure, monitor and maintain home appliances anytime, anywhere. The Management System extends to an intelligent based system where it will study the users’ electricity consumption pattern and provide advises on how the user can conserve energy through all means. To ensure overall development process, the waterfall approach was adopted. Firstly, a literature review was conducted to see the feasibility of smart home management system. User requirements were gathered so as to identify the objectives of this project. After a good understanding of user’s requirements, the elements of the system, the components, the security level, modules, architecture and the different interfaces and type of data that goes through the system was conducted. The implementation of this system was done using Joomla Content Management System, Visual Studio 2010 Console and Windows Application Software. Several forms of tests were conducted to ensure all features of the system met user requirements. Due to the limited amount of time and extensions, the data presented may not appeal to a minority of users. Therefore, there is room for improvements and future enhancements to benefit even larger portion of the targeted audience. Earth will be uninhabitable by 2050. That is the result of a recent study from the World Wide Fund (WWF), a global environmental conservation organization, which also offers a vivid warning that either people curb their extravagant lifestyles or risk leaving the onus on scientists to locate another planet that can sustain human life.
