Summary: | Ageing population has been a concern raised within our society in the recent years, where potential issues are foreseen, such as lacking of manpower or ageing workforce, and the increase in medical expenses. To minimize the impacts which will arise over the years, this project aims to research on ways to motivate senior citizens to continue working and participating in activities such as volunteer work to promote and adopt a healthy ageing lifestyle.
An Android mobile application named ActiveJob is developed to promote such lifestyle. It is integrated with features which are likely to attract senior citizens and can be used as a factor to motivate them to participate actively in activities. The details on these features and how ActiveJob may differ from existing mobile applications in the market will be described in this report.
Prior to the development of ActiveJob, research on motivations and good design principle on Android for senior citizens is conducted. Related platforms such as job portal and crowdsourcing are also being researched to identify their benefits and limitations. After the development work, application testing and survey experiment are done to compare and analyse the results from the research and the experiment.
The mobile application ActiveJob consisted of both intrinsic and extrinsic incentive-motivated features is successfully implemented on the Android platform. The results collected from the experiment is also favourable and the outlook for this hybrid platform looks promising.
Recommendation on features that are not popular during the experiment can be enhanced by adding incentives for achieving them, thus providing a sense of competency. |
