Summary: | Sound is a variation in the pressure of the air that has an effect on people’s ears and brain. Such effect is unwanted and thus unwanted sound is known as noise. (“Control the Noise”, 2015). Noise can be originated from outdoor sources or within a confined space. In today’s fast urbanizing and growing societies, more noise is being produced and transmitted between occupied spaces and this has become a significant concern in societies today (Long, 2006). Hence, research in sound insulation and absorption has been conducted because it has been found that technology in sound insulation and absorption can be used to minimize unwanted sound.
This paper addresses the reduction of sound transmission through a double panel partition using suction method. Several literature reviews indicate that there are many sources of noise as well as existing methods to reduce noise impacts such as using insulation materials and installing double pane windows. This project will review such findings and subsequently come up with improved ways of reducing noise transmission.
This final year project seeks to develop a sound transmission test to investigate the effectiveness of suction of noise to reduce noise transmission. In addition, this will also help to identify the limitations faced throughout the experiments to provide better insights for future projects to work with. |
